Packing!? Move-In!? Here’s an essential list!

With move-in approaching in just a couple of months, it’s time to start creating a list of essentials! For those of you who are moving into W&M for their first time, this is the post for you!

Move-in Essentials:

  • Rubber Mallet if you’d like to unloft or loft your bed!
  • Disinfectant Wipes
  • Twin XL Bedding (Full if you’re moving into certain rooms in OTP or Richmond Hall)
  • Mattress topper [for the comfort]
  • Pillows!
  • Comforter
    • Having duvet covers makes laundry a lot easier!
  • Power strip with surge protection
  • Shower Caddy
  • Shower Shoes are a must!
  • Bath towels
  • Basic First-Aid Kit
  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, etc..)
  • A portable stand fan (if you get hot easily)
  • Laundry bag
    • I suggest getting one that can be worn as a backpack because it makes transporting your laundry to the laundry room so much easier!
  • Laundry Detergent + Dryer Sheets
  • Hangers for your clothes
  • Under the bed storage
    • I personally use the foldable storage “bags” a lot because I’m a chronic overpacker!
  • Mini vacuum or broom
  • Air purifier
  • Microwave & mini-fridge if you’d like to have a personal one for your room
    • Each residence hall has communal microwaves and fridges for ya’ll to use
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Basic dishware
    • You can always “check-out” pots and pans from the Duty Office
  • Backpack
  • Laptop/Ipad
  • Notebook(s)
  • Pens and Pencils
  • All of your chargers
  • Lamp(s)
  • Umbrella
  • Clothes of course!
    • Bring a good variety of summer, spring, winter, and fall clothes since the weather can be unpredictable at times
  • Command Hooks
  • Paint-safe tape
  • Snacks for sure!

To conclude the essentials, here are some of the boring (but very important) ones:

  • Driver’s license/Passport (basically just an ID of some sort)
  • Health insurance card
  • Auto insurance information (if you have your car on campus)
  • Car registration (if you have your car on campus)

There is definitely more to this list – everybody has different essentials that they need. Make sure to create a good packing list, especially if you’re moving far from home!
